Bed Sheet Curtains {Tutorial}

When I was planning our Bedroom Redo, I had to make sure we had fresh new curtains to match our new color scheme. Have you shopped for curtains lately? YIKES! They cost a LOT, and I needed 4 panels for the windows in our room. Not good on the budget. I also had a hard time finding plain, white curtains.
I decided if I couldn't find what I needed...I would just have to make it! Isn't that what a crafty lady should do??
White fabric would have been just fine, but I wanted to cheat a little bit. I decided, if I used bed sheets...then a lot of the hemming and finishing would already be done for me. Off to Walmart I went. You can buy  a queen flat sheet for around $15. Sure beats the pants of off the $40 a panel at some stores! And for that $15, I was getting TWO panels. So two flat sheets and $30 later, I had two beautiful matching sets of curtains, with little effort.
Here's how....

A Queen flat sheet was perfect for me. It was a good length to hang to the floor, with enough fullness to cover the window. If you want more fullness, go for a king size sheet. They are the same length, but you'll have a fuller top.

Materials:

1 Queen flat sheet (per window)
Sewing things

Begin by cutting your flat sheet right down the middle, long ways. (or head to toe)

Finish your two panels with a rolled hem on the side you just cut.
Turn the side under 1/4", then another 1/4" and sew.

You need somewhere for your curtain rod to go. I folded my top over about 6".

Sew two lines of stitching. One at the bottom of your folded fabric, and another about 2" higher. If you are using a large curtain rod, you will need to have a larger casing. Measure accordingly.

Once you're done, your beautiful curtains are finished! Throw a curtain rod in there and put them up. And since they are made of bed sheets, they are very washable!!
(Great for my house with my black kitty cat)

They look even better knowing they didn't break the bank!

*Happy Sewing*
