FAQs

How can I be featured at Grits & Giggles?
I LOVE having visitors here to share tutorials, DIYs and fun ideas. Just shoot me an e-mail at gritsandgigglesboutique@yahoo.com and let me know what you would like me to feature.

How long have you been sewing?

I learned to sew in the spring of 2011. I've been trying to improve and try new things ever since.

Who taught you to sew?

My Granny taught me how to sew, crochet, and cross stitch. She was VERY patient with me for a long time while I learned the basics.

What kind of sewing machine do you use?

My machine is a very basic Brother CS-770 machine. It has lots of stitches, but I only use about 4 of them for everyday sewing. I have used and abused this machine and it's still ticking, but I would love to get a good workhorse machine with more room for quilting in the future.

Do you have a serger?

Not yet. I hope to get one sometime to speed up the process of making my kids' clothes, but in the meantime my machine gets the job done.

What kind of embroidery machine do you use?

I have a Brother PE770. There's definitely a learning curve to embroidering but I'm learning as I go and this has been a great machine, especially since some of the parts are interchangeable with my sewing machine.

I've never used PDF patterns...how do they work?

PDF patterns are easy to use and great for beginners. I am intimidated by paper patterns so I don't use them, but PDF patterns are great. You download them to your computer after purchase. Open up the file (usually in Adobe reader, or some other PDF reader). Read the E-book first for any special notes on printing. Then just print out the pattern pieces you need. You can print the instructions or save paper and read them straight from your computer. All of my E-books have LOTS of pictures and instructions to guide you along the way.

How do you have time for your babies, sewing, your business, and fun?

It's definitely a balance. Most of my sewing is done during naptime, which is definitely hit or miss. I consider my "business" my sewing time, so I only try to work on patterns, blogging, and sewing while the kids are sleeping or playing so hard that they forget I'm around. As far as "fun time", we do most of our activities as a family, but sometimes I'll leave the kids with Hubby for an afternoon or evening for a little me-time. It's all in good balance.
