Matthew's threatening.....

To cut me off from buying more diapers! I never thought I would fall in love with something my child would poop in! I always wanted to cloth diaper, but we had TONS of disposables from showers, and hubby didn't wanna hear about it! I bought a couple as an experiment, and after they held massive amounts of pee without leaking, I thought...let's give this a try. We haven't turned back yet! We've been cloth diapering for about 2 months now and it's been one of the best decisions we've made. It feels so good not to empty the diaper genie all the time and think about all of that trash! Gross!! And...the cloth is so squishy...and colorful...and soft.....

Baby Beef Stew

Another favorite.....

Ingredients:
1 lb beef tips, or stew beef
2-3 small potatoes
1 small onion
1 cup brown rice
*You can also add some diced carrots and sweet peas, or any other veggie that your baby likes

Cook rice according to package directions and set aside. Brown beef in a skillet and add chopped onion. Cook until onion is translucent. Add enough water to cover the beef and add potatoes, diced small. Boil until the beef is done and the potatoes are soft. Add beef/onion/potato mixture to a food processor and pulse until it reaches a good consistency for your baby. Add the rice and enough of the "beef water" to make a slightly soupy consistency. freeze in ice-cube trays and store to serve when your baby wants some beef stew!!

Baby Potato Soup

This is one of Grayson's absolute favorites!!

Ingredients:
5-6 potatoes. I used Yukon Gold, but you can use whatever kind you like. Use fewer if you have big potatoes!
1 Shallot or small onion
Fresh breast milk or formula (I haven't made it with formula, but it would work just the same.)
Cheese if your baby is ready for it

Chop the shallot and potatoes into small pieces and boil them in some water until very soft. Strain them and put them into a bowl to cool a little then mash with a potato masher (if you're not southern and don't know what a "masher" is, then I guess a fork would work too). If you need it smoother, use a food processor. Add breastmilk or formula until it is a soupy consistency. You can add cheese if you like now, or once you thaw it back out. I freeze them in ice cube trays and store in plastic bags to take out of the freezer when she's ready to eat. If your baby has tried other foods that you would like to add to the "soup", have at it!!

Because Gerber is gross....

Now don't get me wrong...There's nothing wrong with Gerber baby food. I know it's nutritious and is very convenient. However, I've tasted the stuff, and it was pretty gross. I make Grayson's baby food from scratch, using organic ingredients when I can.

We took a family vacation to the beach a few weeks ago and took Gerber foods so we wouldn't have to mess with the frozen baby food and a cooler. It was great just being able to throw her food in a bag and go, but I should have NEVER licked the spoon to clean it off. There was no flavor...no texture! Yuck!

We have a freezer full of baby food now, and I love coming up with fun recipes for her to try. Matt says I cook better for her than for us....and he's probably right. I will be sharing some of these recipes so you can make them for your little one, or for yourself...it's up to you!

About Me...

Here's a little bit of info to get you started....

I am a very proud southern girl, wife to Matthew, and Mama to Grayson Leigh. I love spending every minute I can with my baby girl! In my spare time (if I can find any) I love to craft, sew, and catch up on my DVR'd shows!

I have found a new love of sewing, and have been making things for myself and Grayson non-stop since getting my sewing machine. There's something special about knowing your little girl is wearing a one-of-a-kind dress made by you!

We have started the adventure of Cloth Diapering, and I also breastfeed and make all of Grayson's baby food. I'm not really a natural junkie, but I do like knowing that what is on, and goes in her body is as natural as possible!

I talk Matthew's ears off so in order to help him out, and get out what I need to say every day, I'm going to write it all down for me, and others to read. Enjoy!!

What a day....

Today was a horrible day at work. Sometimes I think about the movie "John Q" and how nice it must have been at that hospital for the doors to be closed for a small period of time with nobody coming inside. Don't get me wrong, I love my job, and love the madness of working at the hospital, but sometimes it can be too much! But it's over now, and I get a few hours at home before I get to go do it all over again. At least I have this weekend off.

As I sit here at 2:00am I realize that I should probably be in bed. I have come home from work, done a load of laundry, sewn my baby girl a new top and a new pair of jeans (the top matches one I made for me. Don't tell her!), and now I'm browsing around on the computer. A little part of me says to go to bed, because I'm tired and have to work again tomorrow. Another part of me says that Grayson will wake up soon and want to be fed, so I might as well stay up. Which side of my brain should I listen to?

She slept through the night last night, which has only happened three times in her almost 9 months of existence. It was nice, I must say, but I don't wanna get used to it too soon. Our routine of having no routine has worked for us so far, so why mess it up now. Mama makes a great zombie after all.
