A Christmas Quilt

I am very lucky to have a husband who likes to decorate for the holidays. In fact, he encourages trips to Hobby Lobby "just in case" they have some new stuff! He asked me to make a tree skirt this year, but with all the baby things going on, time ran a little short.  I told him I would make a Christmas quilt instead, and save the tree skirt for next year.

I ordered a charm pack of Cherry Christmas for Moda from Southern Fabric. Charm  packs are your best friend if you need a quick, coordinating set of fabric for a quilt, pillow, small project. They are precut 5" squares of fabrics from a particular line.

When I saw the colors of Cherry Christmas, I knew I had to have it. The reds, lime greens, grays, and the pops of TEAL that now match my living room made me very happy.

I added a few fabrics from my stash, including this fun little red polka dot. I liked it so much I used it for the backing fabric as well.

Hubby picked out the binding fabric. I was hesitant at first to use these stripes, but the diagonal stripe made a perfect candy cane border!!

Great job Hubby!

I am most proud of this quilt because I finally broke down and did it the "right" way. I pinned, ironed, and quilted using my brand spanking new walking foot! More on my love affair with that later.

These extra steps resulted in crisp corners, and NO puckering at the seams like all of my other quilts.

I love my little lap-sized Christmas quilt. I've already curled up for a few not-so-long winter naps under it.

The bright colors and whimsical prints make my heart smile, and it looks super cute in my living room. I'll be sad when January comes!
