{Tutorial} Banded Hand Towels

We've had the same old dish towels since we got married. There's nothing wrong with some of them, but they're mismatched, dirty, or just don't go with the kitchen so we keep them put up until we need them.

I wanted to have easier access to a hand towel, but have them look pretty too!! So a trip to target and a few scraps later.....

We have hand towels that I LOVE to have out and showing.

To make your own you'll need:

(For each towel)
1 kitchen hand towel
1 fabric scrap at least 4" x 20"
Sewing things

I got my plain hand towel at Target for a couple of dollars a piece.

Start by cutting your band to size. Mine was 4" wide, but you can make it as wide as you like. Make the length 1/2" longer than your towel on each end.

Iron the long sides of your fabric down 1/2"

To make neat corners, fold the corner in at a 45 degree angle.

Then iron the short end down 1/2", making sure your corners are still folded in.

If your band lines up neatly with the sides of your towel, pin in place and sew with a 1/8" seam allowance all the way around the band.
The placement of the band is up to you. Mine was about 2" from the end of the towel.

You're done!
You can show off your lovely hand towels that coordinate with your kitchen.

Just that extra little pop of color makes a BIG difference!

*Happy Sewing*
