Nautical Sewing

Even though summer is coming to a close, a beautiful nautically inspired piece of clothing never goes out of style.

Grits & Giggles's two most popular patterns make adorable nautical outfits for your little ones!

The Bradshaw Reversible Jon Jon is an easy-to-sew, comfortable piece of clothing for a little man. The pattern is for a short jon jon, with directions on making a long one, as seen here!

All boys look beautiful in blue, and the split anchor on the chest makes this little sailor extra adorable.

This will quickly become one of your favorite little boy patterns.

Happy customers have said:

"Very easy to print and put together."

"Easy download and great instructions!"

"Super easy to follow instructions."

...and so much more.

Our most popular girls pattern is by far the Laura Jane Dress. This long sleeve, peasant style dress is comfortable, fun, and easy to put together!

Customers who love this pattern have said:

"This is such a great little pattern! I love it, and it runs true to size."

"Absolutely LOVE this pattern!"

"Super simple and turned out adorable."

Adding an anchor with a bow AND a monogram added just the girly touch this dress needed. I love that they can have "matching" outfits without wearing the same fabrics or patterns.

You can still get 20% off of your pattern purchase with code SUMMER in our Pattern Shop.

I'm hanging on to summer as long as I can!

The Grayson Leigh Dress

Ya'll know something has to be EXTRA special to name it after your children. This little dress is so classy, classic, and lovely, that only one name came to mind.... The Grayson Leigh. You can read about creating this pattern HERE.

The Grayson Leigh dress pattern is available in sizes 12 months - girls 8.

It's a classic silhouette that will never go out of style. A simple, A-line shift dress, with a button back closure.
The dress is fully lined, and all seams are hidden, making a professional and comfortable-to-wear finish.

And...there are NO buttonholes!

Button-top jumpers are cute, but little girls will love the grown-up style of this big girl dress!

Comfortable enough for an afternoon of play, and classy enough to wear your favorite pearls.

The dress is perfect for a monogram, pockets, bows or bling. Whatever you want to embellish with!

(by the way, WHY does my baby look so grown here???)

The Grayson Leigh is an easy-to sew dress. A confident beginner can sew this dress in an afternoon. An intermediate sewist can knock one out in a naptime! Goldilocks loves waking up to a new dress in her closet. She thinks it's magic.

You can purchase the pattern for instant download
at Etsy or Craftsy

I hope you have as much fun sewing this sweet and classy pattern as I do. Nothing makes a little girl feel prettier than a new, beautiful dress!

Coming Soon: New Pattern

It's been a little while since I released a new sewing pattern for a dress. Goldilocks loves dresses by Lilly Pulitzer (who doesn't), but spending over $50 a piece on a toddler dress isn't something a lot of us can do every day!

So I worked to make my baby girl a shift dress as CLOSE to a Lilly-style toddler shift dress as possible...and I'm over the moon happy with it!

I let her pick her fabrics for these two, and she did a great job picking classy and sweet prints.

This little shift dress is a classic, never to go out of style.  And no button-top shoulders, so it looks like a grown-up dress, perfect for classy little girls.

She of course wanted her monogram on ALL of the dresses, and I was happy to oblige. Besides, it's not really hers until it's monogrammed!

The pattern is oh-so-close to being finished. Hopefully by the end of the week it will be available for YOU to sew too!

How many will you sew for your classy southern girl?

More Sewing for Kids: The Kaileigh Dress

I've been updating the kids' spring and summer wardrobe with some new goodies. I realized I haven't made a Kaileigh Dress in a while, and wanted to knock one out.

Ya'll have made this dress a definite favorite. It's a classic silhouette, adjustable for a good fit, and best of all...it's reversible!

I let Goldilocks pick out her fabrics this time and I must say she did a good job. She always wants her name or monogram on her outfits now. Bless her...she doesn't know how happy that makes me!
I love how bright the chevron is. And how jealous am I of her hair?? No 3 year old should have hair that perfect! She wanted a bun for our Tea Party at church.

The Kaileigh Dress is by far the easiest of all of the dresses in my Pattern Shop to sew. Just one pattern piece, and all of the seams are hidden. Piece of cake. And it has infinite possibilities for personalization and customization.

Monogrammed, hair done...ready for our Tea. I love every 3 generation picture we take. I think Goldilocks looks more and more like my Mama every day!

What have you been sewing for your little ones this spring?

More Laura Jane Sewing

The Laura Jane Dress has quickly become my favorite pattern to sew, and YOURS too!!

This little pattern is flying out of the Pattern Shop. And what's not to love? It's easy to sew, looks completely adorable, and comes in 12 sizes...perfect for all ages of little girls!

I've sewn up a few more myself in the past few weeks for my baby, and for others. Here's a couple of more sewing ideas for you with this dress.

Simple and sweet. A perfect  little navy blue dress with a monogram. Great on its own, or even better with boots and leggings for winter.

It's a modest dress, but simply adorable.

A friend of ours welcomed an adorable baby girl into their family last week. She needed some dresses as well! Her Mommy wanted one for fall and one for Christmas. They're even cuter in tiny sizes!

I've been using my new embroidery machine (my latest addiction) to embellish the dresses I sew, but there are soooo many ways to add personality and embellishment on your own! Pockets, ric rac, trims, simple appliques, and multiple fabrics can be used to make a truly unique dress.

These sew up in no time at all and would be well-loved by a little girl in your life.
What a great Christmas present!

A Two-fer

There are about a million other things I should be doing than sewing right now... but it's too much fun. And so is pattern making! Therefore... I decided to release these two patterns together. A two-fer if you will.

First is the Kristen Apron Knot Dress.

I love browsing Etsy and seeing these darling little dresses, so naturally Goldilocks had to have one.
(or two or three)

The bodice is perfect for monogramming, as every southern dress should be.

The pattern includes sizes 6 months-5T, with photo instructions on putting the dress together.

It also includes directions on adding a ruffled apron if you wish!

The second pattern is the Aprile Knot Dress and Top

This pattern is available in 6 months-5T and includes measurements and directions for making a dress AND a top. I love both, but this top version is my favorite. Can you tell who chose the fabric??

Such a sweet little top.

Use 2, 3, or 4 fabrics to make a one of a kind garment!

The dress is a conservative length, and with a shirt underneath is perfect for the cooler months.

This bodice is also perfect for monogramming.

Both are available at Grits & Giggles on Etsy, or Craftsy
for instant download, and are only $6.50.

Make sweet layered looks for the winter and cool and swingy warm weather garments for the spring. Little girls NEED these in their wardrobe!

12 Sizes of Fabulous!!

It's here...it's done...WAHOO! The Laura Jane Dress pattern is updated, and has

TWELVE SIZES for you to sew!

All the sizes you'll ever need! It has sizes 6 Months- Girls 11/12. It will fit from an infant to a tween.

This dress is perfect because of the conservative length and neckline, with all of the funky cuteness of ruffled bell sleeves.

Shorten the dress and make it a fun tunic-length top as well.

Find the pattern HERE on Craftsy or HERE on Etsy.

If you've already purchased the pattern (Thank You!!), you should have received an e-mail from me, or from the Craftsy Website if you purchased there, with the new file for download. I couldn't leave out the people who had to have the pattern right away!

Even with the addition of new sizes, the pattern is still only $6.50! Imagine how long you can use this pattern to sew for your little girl. Mine already has a closet full...but there's always room for more cuteness!
