While I do most of the crafting around the Grits and Giggles household...I can't take all the credit for this one. I told Hubby we needed something for the grown ups to do at Gray's birthday party, and so we decided to make ourselves a cornhole set!
Yes, you can buy these, but then you wouldn't have the pleasure of wielding power tools, sweating in miserable heat, arguing over designs, and getting covered in paint. I guess I didn't make that sound too appealing, but it was sooo much fun!! We actually work pretty well together on these projects. He does the construction (I help when I can) and I do the painting and finishing. We were very proud of the finished product and had a great time with them.
Grayson got in on the fun too!
She liked stacking the bean bags
They even let the girls play a time or two....I'd say we were pretty good.
The bags are filled with dried corn, and are just 6" squares. They stared as 7" squares of fabric (canvas, duck cloth, sportswear material) before stitching and turning, and I double stitched the seams to make them stronger.
We compromised on the design. I wanted walking Tiger Paws, and he wanted clean lines, so the finished product was a nice combination of those two. I'm not totally sure of the deminsions of the boards, but you can Google and finds hundreds of sites and tutorials on different ways to make them.
They look great! You could make them and sell them at festivals and such. We've thought about buying a set but they cost so much.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it's much better built that anything you could buy and you'll treasure it!
