12 Sizes of Fabulous!!

It's here...it's done...WAHOO! The Laura Jane Dress pattern is updated, and has

TWELVE SIZES for you to sew!

All the sizes you'll ever need! It has sizes 6 Months- Girls 11/12. It will fit from an infant to a tween.

This dress is perfect because of the conservative length and neckline, with all of the funky cuteness of ruffled bell sleeves.

Shorten the dress and make it a fun tunic-length top as well.

Find the pattern HERE on Craftsy or HERE on Etsy.

If you've already purchased the pattern (Thank You!!), you should have received an e-mail from me, or from the Craftsy Website if you purchased there, with the new file for download. I couldn't leave out the people who had to have the pattern right away!

Even with the addition of new sizes, the pattern is still only $6.50! Imagine how long you can use this pattern to sew for your little girl. Mine already has a closet full...but there's always room for more cuteness!

Bigger and Better

Thanks to everyone who has shown the Laura Jane Dress Pattern some serious love!!

I have received LOTS of e-mails asking if this pattern can be available in bigger sizes for girls.

I only have my baby girl to compare sizes to, so I wasn't comfortable making the dress any bigger than a 4T yet....BUT since you love the pattern so much, I've hit the drafting floor and am working on...

SIZES 5-12!!

After researching the sizes to make the best fit, I realized that I can wear this dress in a size 12. Maybe I can test it after all!

These sizes will be an add-on to the pattern, so if you've already purchased the pattern, I will send you the larger sizes in an e-mail once it's complete.

Give me a few days(ish) to get it together and looking pretty and I'll have the Laura Jane pattern updated!

Sneak Peek

If you are fans of Grits & Giggles on Facebook...then you know that there has been a sewing frenzy going on at my house! As part of my "cleaning out" (this has been going on for months, yet nothing seems to be missing) I have decided to use up as much of my fabric stash as possible to make some fun things for my babies and my home. Once I started sorting fabrics I found some really fun ones that I had forgotten about!

I laid them all together and decided to make some dresses for Goldilocks. A few hours later...the child had FOUR new dresses for her closet. She thinks it's Christmas around here. I love when she puts on new dresses and wants to "twirl" all day. As I was making them I decided that I needed to share them with YOU.

The patterns are in the works and are coming along nicely. They'll be a sweet addition to the Grits & Giggles Pattern Shop at Etsy or Craftsy.

They of course had to be named after my girlfriends....

First is the Aprile Knot Dress and Top Pattern.
This little one is named after my sweet cousin. She has a baby girl just a month older that my baby boy. It's been so neat having two close babies in the family.

I can't decide whether I love it more as a dress or a top. Goldilocks loves both.

It's a classic knot-dress style with a banded bottom.
The possibilities for fabric combinations are endless with this little piece.

So sweet, and super easy to wear.

The dress is a conservative length and just precious with a monogrammed bodice. It's getting pretty chilly here, so throwing a shirt underneath made it very winter appropriate.

The second pattern is the Kristen Apron Knot Dress.
My girlfriend/sister from college has a blog BA in Housewifery, where she writes about her life as a military wife. She has some fun stories, recipes, and travel notes. When I thought about the apron dress, I immediately thought of her "housewife" title and knew I had to use her name.

This dress is similar to the Aprile Knot Dress, but has different pieces, including an apron piece on the front of the dress. The pattern will have an option for a flat or ruffled apron piece.

Goldilocks thought it was fun to play with.

Here is the ruffled version. It adds just a little extra "girly touch" to the dress. As if it needed any. I also knotted this one in the back instead of the front. LOTS of options for styling and fabrics with this dress.

Baby girl loves her new wardrobe, and I loved seeing these fabrics come to life again in different ways. I had forgotten about some of them.

Hopefully the patterns are just a few days from completion.
I can't wait for you to try them!

The Bradshaw Pattern is HERE!!

I am soooooo excited to announce that the Bradshaw Pattern is ready for YOU to sew!!

This is my first pattern for a BOY and I love it.

Best of all...it's REVERSIBLE!

Ya'll have done some serious sewing with my last reversible pattern,
The Kaileigh Dress, so it's time for some double sided goodness for the boys too.

The pattern is a full color E-book, with printable pattern pieces, color photos,
and step by step instructions on how to put your garment together.

It includes instructions on how to make a LONG jon jon as well,
and how to install crotch snaps for making diaper changes
 and getting dressed a breeze.

This corduroy version is perfect for the fall and winter months!

Great for fall photo shoots in the pumpkins!

Add monograms, appliques, pockets and other embellishments to make
the jon jon truly unique to your little boy.

I hate paying for "wear once" outfits for holidays, so how perfect to put a theme on one side and leave the other side ready for everyday wear! You can still have your cute boutique-style holiday wear, without hanging it in the closet to never be worn again.

Make one side dressy for Mama to love...and put your favorite sports team on the other side for Dad!

It's a win-win really.

As always, this pattern is only $6.50 and available for INSTANT download at both Craftsy and Etsy.

A Year-Round Wreath

With all of the beautiful fall wreaths out now, it was time for me to get on the ball and make ours. We have a BIG one that we use for fall, but I'm getting tired of it. We're also in between the times I like to use our Halloween Wreath and our Deco Mesh wreath.

Instead of making it too fall-like, I decided to make a nice year-round wreath. One big roll of jute ribbon, and some chevron burlap, and I had a beautiful wreath!

I made it very similar to how I made the Deco Mesh Wreath, but with less ties, since the jute was wired.

I used my new TOY (An embroidery machine!!! EEK!) to add some real personality to the tails of the bow. Of course, a Palmetto Tree, and our Monogram "M".

After posting a picture of it on Facebook, I got LOTS of responses for people wanting them! I was surprised and happy to see how much it was loved. Now there are many, many of these little babies on the doors of new homes.

While I'm in no way tired of chevron yet, I'm glad that this is more subtle. The dark gray and brown of the wreath makes it perfect to transition between holidays and seasons. My door loves it, and I love walking in to it.

See the Tutorials page for LOTS of DIY wreaths!

A Sweet Peasant Dress

While I've been  busy working on my one-and-only boys sewing pattern a little crafting bug got to me, and I wanted needed to sew baby girl a new dress. She's going to be needing some long sleeved dresses soon, and with it being fall, she needed an orange dress (also game-day appropriate!)

I sewed her a similar dress last year, and as I began cutting out pieces, I decided I needed to take a few extra steps and make a pattern for YOU for this dress. So...it's on it's way. Hopefully it will be done well in time for you to do some fall sewing for your darling little girl.

The Laura Jane dress is a flowy, peasant-style dress with ruffled bell sleeves. The sleeves make it extra girly! It could also be shortened into a top or tunic.

Ya'll know my patterns are named after my girlfriends. Laura (or Duds, as she will always be to me) was the "mama" of our group in college. She was always the voice of reason, and is still my go-to for advice!

I love that it has a little bit of a Mod feel to it.

Seeing this sweet girl in her dress makes me want to bust out my boots and dresses!

Gorgeous, sweet, comfortable.

Here is the one I sewed up last year for her. Throw an orange bow in the mix and you've got a great Halloween ensemble! I added a ruffle to the bottom of the black version. It's a fun detail!

How did I get a baby with this much attitude???

Sugar and spice and a little bit of hot sauce....that's what this little girl is made of.

I can't wait to get this pattern finished and ready for you to sew. It's a fun one that will be a great staple in your baby girl's wardrobe!

Pattern Testers Needed

Hello Crafty Friends!! It's that time again....

I need pattern testers!!

I would call on my tried-and-true testers, but this time I need people with BOYS!

We're going to test The Bradshaw
 Reversible Jon Jon/romper/shortall.

The pattern is for sizes 6 months - 4T

The pattern is ideal for an advanced beginner. Sewing easily around curves is a must. There are instructions for adding a snap crotch to make diaper changes easy as well.

If you have a baby boy in this size range and would like to test, e-mail me at

You MUST be able to complete the garment within a week of receiving the pattern (due to be ready this week). I will also need photos of your finished garment, preferably on a little one as well. I can edit their faces out if you would like for me to. It's just cuter on a person. If you have a blog with some photos of your sewing, please send me the link to check out! I love seeing other's sewing projects and tastes.

Thanks so much crafty friends! I look forward to hearing from you and getting this pattern ready for YOU!

Curb Appeal

Every now and then, it's good to take a look at the OUTSIDE of your house and see what might need a little updating. I've been really focused on the inside, and have neglected our curb appeal. Hubby usually maintains the outside of the house. Cutting grass is his therapy, so I happily stay out of the way.

I got to looking at our mailbox and decided it needed a facelift. We've had this "M" magnet on it for years and it was starting to fade a little. That, and I was wanting to craft something.

Here is our old mailbox...

After removing the magnet, realizing it had melted itself onto our mailbox, and scrubbing for a very very long time to make it white again....

Here is the new mailbox!
(The palmetto "flag" was on the original mailbox as well. It was a wedding gift from some friends!)

I used my silhouette to cut out the vinyl letters. Instead of a full monogram, Hubby wanted just a big "M" with our name over it. I like the "established" too. It's a reminder of how long we've been together in our home.

It was a much needed facelift for something we drive by every day, but rarely really LOOK at.
A cheap, fast, and effective project. That's the best kind right???
