Today we have Sheree from Seaweed and Raine sharing how to make a super-cute knitted beanie! I'm no knitter, but I sure wish I was so I could make some of these for baby gifts!
Hi There! I'm Sheree from Seaweed & Raine and I'm so delighted be a part of Jenilyn's Becoming Mommy series here at Grits and Giggles. It's only been a few months since I welcomed our gorgeous little boy into our family making it a family of five, and since he was a winter baby it gave me the perfect excuse to break out the knitting needles and make him something scrumptiously soft to help keep him snugly and warm.
Today I want to share with you the pattern I made specially for our Baby Starfish.
Without further ado, I give you...
The Sunflower Starfish Baby Beanie
Fits from birth to 3 months approx.Materials:
4 ply baby yarn (I used Cleckheaton Cocoon, that I had in my stash)
3.5mm Double Pointed Needles (The yarn wrapper says 3.25mm, but I tend to knit tightly with 4ply)
Stitch marker
Tapestry needle for sewing up the top of beanie
Cast on 100 stitches. I like the long tail method for this.
Place the stitches evenly over 3 of the DPN's and add stitch marker. (I place the first stitch on the last needle, and the last on the first, thereby crossing the threads and making a loop (you could also use circular needles if they are short enough).
Work 10 rows of 2x1 rib*
Work 20 rows of knit stitch (stst)

Thread tapestry needle and stitch through remaining loops, fastening off after 2 rounds (I like to know it's going to be secure).
* You could also do variations like 2x2 rib. I have also done a 4x4 for a bigger size that made for his older brother.
(P.S. This is the first time I've ever written a beanie pattern - so if you find any glitches, please let me know.)
Some of my other favourite Mommy/Baby related posts are Lux Lovey with Taggy Feature.
The Maternity Maxi Skirt - which was so easy to put together - even though I have never sewn with knit fabric before.
Adjustable Baby Bib for when the dribbles start and the first solid food is on the menu.
Baby Cloche - I love making these to gift to friends who have little girls!
Baby Muklucks for something a little more funky than traditional booties...
Plus there are even more cool baby related things!
Stop on by some time - I'd love have you visit.
